(Warning – this question may go on for a bit!)
Just would like to know how i can get my girlfriend to stop smoking. I know you can’t give up by the snap of the fingers and i don’t expect that. She says that she won’t smoke around me cos she knows i don’t like it but today she said "please don’t hate me but i really need a fag" I don’t mind her having the odd one here and there if she’s going to give up. I think i nag her too much to give up by keep saying "if you want to give up, i’ll help you all the way" The reason why i want her to give up is apart from obviously all the health risks which every tom dick and harry knows! But because i watched my nan die from lung cancer a few months ago caused by smoking. I just don’t want the same to happen to her because i care for her so much. I tried explaining that to her today and it was so hard i had a tear come out my eye in public (looked like a right plonker) and this made her upset. So any advice or tips would be grateful. Thank you to all

Give her an ultimatum with a time period. Say, I want you to quit smoking by X, or whatever amount of time seems appropriate. Then you tell her that if she’s still smoking at that time you’ll break up with her.
Its obviously bothers you, hence your aunt. It doesn’t sound like you could love someone who smokes, or rather, they couldn’t love you. So yeah, be honest, and if she loves you enough she’ll quit. This is a bit idealistic, but I think it’s a good test of how strong your relationship is.
My dad made my mom quit. He said to her that she should choose him or the cigarettes. She chose him, which is why I’m here. I asked my fiance to quit too. I told her it was either me or the cigarettes after dating for a year. She chose me. And reminds me of it all the time, mind you. But hey, its worth it to me.
