My life improved a lot, in new ways I never thought of in connection with quitting smoking. For instance, my life in hotel rooms got better. Before, I used to ask for a smoking room whenever I checked in a hotel. Smoking rooms have a bad smell, regardless the hotel category or cleanliness. Maybe they don’t smell if the hotel is new but this I cannot tell. Many times I had to endure that bad odor, being ashamed to go and ask for another room at the reception. I noticed that improvement from the first time I checked in a hotel as non-smoker and I was impressed of the nice flowery scent of the room. Truth is, I've never WANTED to give up. Until now. I recently went to my local NHS stop smoking service where I was given advice and support on quitting smoking. They asked me what my reason for quitting was. (For me, it's because I want to have a baby). They then advised me on what was available to me. As I am trying to conceive, Champix was not advised (Though this is a pretty effective drug to aid quitting so I am told). I can however have patches. Although not ideal when trying to conceive, it is far better than actually smoking the cigarette. I had to set a date that I would take the plunge and go smoke free. That day is tomorrow. After that, I will keep attending meetings with the stop smoking service where I will get one to one and/or group support. They even give you a phone number to call if you feel the need to light up! This is where I am told that the operators will support you 24 hours a day. I think that what I'm getting at is that your girlfriend needs to WANT to stop. Unless she does, for whatever reason, I do not feel that she could. I know I didn't. There is much more support available these days. A trip to the GP will help for advice. My brother just married a girl YESTERDAY in Hollywood! His first wife and she smokes. He always said he would never marry a smoker! Well love is bigger then that! God is love. He tries to encourage her to slow down and someday quit. She has made an effort! Love conquers all...!
